Current Call Outs
Book Project:
Are you a writer with a powerful story to tell but no place to publish it?
Would you like to have your story in a book so that you can give as a gift or sell at speaking engagements?
If so, I may have a solution for you! I’m an author, speaker, and public relations consultant who is in the process of publishing 10 Pieces of a Woman’s Heart, a devotional book based on the ten felt needs expressed by women whom I surveyed. I’m looking for 15 writers to supplement my own writing. Here are the details:
Projected Publication Date: November 15, 2011
Style: 6”x9” trim, 4-color exterior, B&W interior
Retail price: $14.99
Submissions Due: February 21, 2011
Word Count: 650-700
Each devotion should begin with a verse that supports the message in your story. Each story will conclude with a brief “pray for you” and “prayer for a friend” which I will write (or you may suggest). My need is for compelling, true stories that fit the following categories:
· Feeling Safe and Secure—This could be a story of financial loss or overcoming, or it could be physical or emotional safety.
· Respect—It’s easy to lose our identity and feel insignificant. Stories of gaining the respect of others, God and ourselves in unique and powerful ways.
· Self-care—Each of us needs to take time to fill our spirits with things we love. Stories of how you were able to take a memorable trip, create time in your busy life for something you love, or how something “selfish” blessed those you love.
· Humor—Lessons God has taught you that can be told in a really LOL way.
· Supernatural—“God stories” (undeniably supernatural encounters/answered prayer)
· Friendship—Unusual, profound stories of friendships.
· Purpose--Transformational awakenings of doing something you know you were meant to do.
Submission details: Please write in third person (even if it’s a personal experience). Please change identifying factors like names, locations, careers, etc. Just the experience and heart of the story needs to remain authentic. Show, don’t tell. Include emotions and engage your (our) senses as you share the experience but don’t get bogged in details. Strong leads are a plus. 675-750 words. The deadline for all submissions to be received is February 21, 2011.
Payment: There is no payment but if your story is chosen you will receive a by-line, a free copy of the book, and the ability to buy the book at a wholesale price (appx $5.50) to sell at speaking engagements or give as gifts. First rights will be retained by me for the book but you may use your story for reprint opportunities after the book is published.
Please contact me for a sample if you would like to participate in this project. Put “Sample” in the subject line. Diane@DianeMarkins.com.
Thanks! Blessings as you consider this opportunity.
